Breathwork is bringing consciousness to breath or consciously regulating or changing the depth and frequency to access an altered state of consciousness

Breath circulates the energy within us, we can breathe slowly and calmly and become calm, we can breathe deeply and quickly and get excited.

Breath is tied to the nervous system and stimulates expression of trapped emotions or feelings. 

Breath is in a way a detoxing of the body as deep breath work in which is efficient and using the belly or stimulating the diaphragm to breath can circulate lymphatics, blood circulation and cerebral spinal fluid to circulate energy and rejuvenate.
